Question: During the Fajr salah, between Sunnah and Fard (in jamah) there are plenty time to wait to start the Jama’ah, so in the meantime can we pray extra Nawafil before commencing the jama’ah (Fard)?

Answer: After the appearance of subh sadiq (dawn) until sun rise, there are no other Sunan or Nawafil Salah permissible during that time except only two rak’ah Sunnah. It is makruh (disliked) act as the Prophet s.a.w. never prayed any Nawafil after the two Rak’ah Sunnah. However, in the meantime if there are time available, one can make up any Qadah Salah if any due or keep oneself busy with zikr and or Quran recitation till the Jama’ah starts.
